Executive Director, Strategy & Operations US CV &EB Position
Summary This position is part of the US Commercial Cardiovascular &
Established Brands Leadership Team and reports to the SVP, US
Cardiovascular & Established Brands (CV&EB). The Exec.
Director, Strategy & Operations (S&O) US CV&EB will play a
critical role in continuing BMS' leadership position in
cardiovascular, as well as in supporting our broad established
brands portfolio.The Exec. Director, S&O US CV&EB is
responsible for leading the S&O capability across the entire US
CV&EB organization - including brand, sales, regional
marketing, medical science liaisons, and account managers. In this
role, the Exec. Director for S&O will direct the actions of the
S&O team across the US CV&EB organization. The S&O team
is accountable for the cross functional development and execution
of a strategic plans that enable the organization to create
sustainable value for our in-line brands as well as pre-launch
assets. As a part of this process, the Exec. Director, S&O US
CV&EB is responsible for ensuring both sufficient financial
support and budget performance for US CV&EB operations.This
position will also play a key role in the operations of the entire
US CV&EB organization, setting the agenda for the US CV&EB
Leadership Team and ensuring that key decisions are executed across
various stakeholders, and for all strategic communication planning
and execution across the entire US CV&EB organization, in
partnership with US Corporate Communications. This person will also
partner closely with the Finance organization to manage all budget
and financial projection processes for the franchise.This role is
also responsible for leading our organizational culture and people
strategies which are vital to the success of the US CV&EB
organization and will work closely with the Leadership Team as well
as other matrix stakeholders across the enterprise. Key
Responsibilities
- In partnership with key stakeholders, this role is accountable
for:
- Strategy, Execution & Planning
- Supporting SVP in planning and executing critical business
initiatives and driving innovation and change both organizationally
and culturally
- Strategic offsite planning, and development of US CV&EB
long-term vision and LT purpose and priorities
- Actively contributing to and managing operations for the US
CV&EB LT, ensuring alignment to purpose and execution of
priorities across US team
- Achieving US CV&EB objectives, as well as broader
Commercial goals
- Designing and implementing innovative business solutions across
the entire US CV&EB organization. Sharing learnings and best
practices with matrix partners
- Advising SVP, US CV&EB on data sensitive projects,
including modelling of alternative organizational structures and
headcount as business needs change during brand lifecycles
- Driving the agenda of the key internal meetings (Town Halls,
Forums, etc.)
- Supporting the execution of key corporate processes across the
entire US CV&EB organization and ensuring timely delivery
(Contributions setting, Talent reviews, Performance reviews,
Earnings call, etc.)
- Fostering effective decision-making principles and
prioritization
- Budget
- Commercial point for financial analysis at BU level, including
embedding new budget/IR processes into the entire US CV&EB
organization
- Accountable for the OpEx management of the entire US CV&EB
organization, including resource allocation, preparation of
insights for senior leadership reviews, oversight of monthly
operating expenses, and projections
- In partnership with Finance, coordination of budget/funding
related processes across the entire US CV&EB organization
(annual budget cycle, projections, business reviews)
- Brand planning
- Oversee effective management of Brand Planning process
- Ensure cohesive Strategic & Functional plans driving innovation
& growth for portfolio
- Ensure synergies & sharing across the entire US CV&EB
organization
- Communication & Matrix Alignment
- Working with Corporate Communications on both internal and
external communications plans and messages
- Building and managing relationships with internal matrix
stakeholders and Business Partners (HR, Finance, BI&A, IT
SS&P, etc.)
- Partnering with key matrix teams to ensure the implementation
of the key US CV&EB strategies and initiatives
- Support SVP, Head of US CV&EB in development of the
strategic communications and the related content or materials
- Leadership, People & Culture
- Directly leading Strategy & Operations staff, defining and
prioritizing their Book of Work and ensuring alignment and best
practice sharing to gain efficiencies
- Shape development plans of the S&O team, including
succession plan for the Exec. Director, S&O US CV&EB
- Developing, embedding and executing a strategy to attract,
develop and retain talent in the entire US CV&EB
organization
- Leading relevant work streams and sub-teams as required
- Supporting the onboarding of the new hires
- Embedding and driving a culture of innovation, collaboration,
inclusion and diversityQualifications & Experience
- B.S./B.A. Degree or higher required.
- Understanding of BMS processes
- Min. 10 years of pharmaceutical or health care experience
required in Commercialization, Strategy & Operations or related
functions; having both brand marketing and field sales
(customer-facing) experience a plus
- Leadership experience in selecting, leading, developing,
motivating and achieving results through teams (direct and/or
indirect leadership).
- Demonstrated creative problem-solving.
- Success in effectively communicating and influencing decisions
with senior management.
- Ability to flex across different types of cultures, work,
complexities, business situations and matrix partners.
- Demonstrated ability to successfully and effectively
collaborate and work across boundaries and building strong external
relationships.
- Demonstrated use of communication and change management
strategies/tactics to influence new ways of thinking and
working.
