Job Description:
Summary: Streetwork Project is the oldest street outreach
program for homeless and street-involved youth in New York City.
The program has grown from its beginnings in 1984 as a storefront
project to encompass both outreach and comprehensive harm reduction
services. Streetwork's programs are innovative outreach-counseling
programs for homeless youth, which use a harm reduction, client
centered, and trauma informed approach. Services include
counseling, HIV prevention, case management, drop-in, daily living
services, meals, groups, legal services, syringe exchange and
overdose prevention services, mental health, and medical. The core
service is long-term, one-on-one counseling, which is offered in a
non-judgmental and holistic manner utilizing a harm reduction
approach that focuses on building trust, fostering self-esteem,
exploring options and choices, and empowering youth to adapt less
harmful coping mechanisms.Responsibilities:Learn and integrate a
trauma-informed, client-centered approach, using an anti-oppressive
lens, into your work with clients.Provides one on one
trauma-focused treatment, to young people dealing with homelessness
and involved in extreme coping high-risk behaviors such as sex work
and substance useConduct client intakes, safety assessment and risk
managementSupport client facing staff in Drop-in milieuCoordination
of inter-site clinical case conferences with Drop-In Center
Supervising Social WorkersPartners with the SHCC satellite
therapist and on-site psychiatrist in coordinating client
careFacilitates referrals from the other Runaway & Homeless Youth
programs and other community based sourcesMaintains timely and
accurate documentation of all clinical activities in compliance
with all Safe Horizon, City and State Federal requirementsActively
participates in weekly individual and treatment-specific group
supervision withsupervising clinicianShares knowledge about trauma
and vicarious trauma with client facing staff as necessaryInitiates
team-building and problem-solving with colleagues as necessary
Qualifications: The minimum credential for this position is
LMSWDemonstrates exceptional engagement skills with youth along
with knowledge of vicarious trauma and trauma-informed
interventionBasic understanding of issues confronting homeless
youth;Superior assessment and crisis intervention skills
(suicidality, homicidality, child abuse reporting)Excellent
interpersonal skills required (including written, verbal,
presentation and clinical engagement skills)Ability to incorporate
Evidence Base Framework in working with youthExcellent
organizational and time management skillsUnderstanding of harm
reduction philosophy and practiceCompassionate and non-judgmental
