Clinical Forensic Specialist - Child Advocacy Center -
ManhattanSummary:Safe Horizon is the nation's leading nonprofit
victim assistance, advocacy and violence prevention program. Safe
Horizon's Child Advocacy Centers play a critical, front-line role
in responding to child sexual abuse and severe physical abuse by
providing a coordinated and collaborative approach to the
investigation of such cases, while ensuring that victims receive
immediate, effective support. In each Child Advocacy Center (CAC),
Safe Horizon partners with the New York Police Department, the
Administration for Children's Services, the local District Attorney
and local medical providers to ensure that an expert response
begins as soon as a child victim steps through the door. At the
Safe Horizon nationally accredited CACs, a team of child protective
caseworkers, police detectives, pediatricians, prosecutors, and
Safe Horizon staff work together in a child-friendly setting to
conduct joint forensic interviews and provide expert evaluation and
treatment services, in order to improve the quality of child abuse
investigations, prosecutions and outcomes and minimize the trauma
to child victims and their families.Responsibilities:
- Learn and integrate a trauma-informed, client-centered
approach, using an anti-oppressive lens, into your work with
clients (child victims of abuse and involved family members).
- Participate in the forensic interview process through assuming
a lead interviewing role or observing the interview of the child,
coordinating services with the multi-disciplinary team members, and
debriefing the child and family.
- Conduct a thorough assessment of the child and the
non-offending family members to determine the impact of the trauma
on the child's functioning, siblings and involved caregivers and
the need for additional services for the child and family.
- Provide an evidence-based mental health intervention (CFTSI)
for children and family members meeting eligibility criteria.
- Provide client-centered victim support & advocacy services to
ensure that the child's and family's needs are addressed, and the
family is kept informed.
- Participate in multidisciplinary case planning and case review
meetings to represent the child & family's interest and advocate
for their needs.
- Enter and maintain case data in the CMS case tracking system
for every service provided to clients from the opening to the
closing of a case.
- Participate in weekly supervision.
- Other duties and responsibilities as may be
assigned.Qualifications:
- Master's Degree required to provide evidence-based mental
health treatments (MSW, MHC, MFP).
- Prior experience in Forensic Interviewing or providing a mental
health treatment a plus - willingness to acquire these specialized
skills required.
- Excellent engagement, interviewing, crisis intervention and
assessment skills needed.
- Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team with a
willingness to appreciate different points of view and solve
problems in a constructive manner required.
- Strong written and communication skills needed.
- Bi-Lingual (Spanish) ability desirable.
- Understanding of child development and experience working with
children and families impacted by violence a plus.If hired, I agree
