Provides assistance to invasive cardiologist in the performance of
diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional cardiac angiographic
procedures in the safest and most efficient manner possible with
the maintenance of optimal patient care. Essential duties and
responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be
assigned.

Responsibilities
- 1. Provides pre-procedural education of patients scheduled for
diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiac procedures.
- 1.1 Provides pre-procedural education of patients scheduled for
diagnostic and therapeutic invasive cardiac procedures including
both immediate pre-procedural education and teaching in advance of
procedure according to departmental standards as observed by
supervisor.
- 2. Ensures proper preparation of patient and equipment
necessary to perform the designated procedure or procedures.
- 2.1 Greets patients and documents their arrival within 1-2
minutes.
- 3. Provides a clean and efficient environment for patients,
staff and physicians by maintaining the equipment, inventory, and
physical plant.
- 3.1 Maintains neatness and cleanliness within the department by
both daily cleaning of equipment and maintenance of assigned
equipment according to the Cath Lab Equipment List as observed by
supervisor.
- 4. Plans and/or implements care for assigned patients.
- 4.1 Demonstrates knowledge of developmental stages from
adolescence to old age and applies development theories/concepts
when planning and implementing care for the adult patient as
observed by supervisor and as indicated by feedback from
staff.
- 5. Provides essential anatomic information via the collection,
interpretation, documentation, and recording of physiologic
information in cardiac cath lab.
- 5.1 Collects appropriate hemodynamic measurements for specific
clinical situations as indicated by random review of cases.
- 6. Understands the fundamentals of the electrocardiogram as
used in the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- 6.1 Demonstrates knowledge of and identifies equipment utilized
in all diagnostic procedures such as catheters and wires as
observed by supervisor.
- 7. Understands the fundamentals of the procedures performed in
the EP lab.
- 7.1 EP: a. Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of C-arm.
b. Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of Life-Pak
Defibrillator/monitor. c. Identifies indications for EPS,
Pacemaker, ICD, Bi vent and Ablation procedures. d. Performs
patient prep for each procedure. e. Performs room set up and
provides supplies for each procedure. f. Accurately identifies the
common position for EP catheters.
- 8. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of a cardiac
catheterization and the cardiac catheterization laboratory.
- 8.1 Accurately identifies indications for a cardiac
catheterization as indicated by physician feedback and supervisory
observation.
- 9. Demonstrates proficiency in the operation and maintenance of
all diagnostic and therapeutic equipment used including electrical
safety for each piece of equipment.
- 9.1 Demonstrates proficiency in the operation of ECG/pressure
recorder analyzer with computer interface as indicated by physician
feedback and supervisory observation.
- 10. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of peripheral
catheterization
- 10.1 Accurately identifies indications for peripheral
catheterization and intervention.
- 11. Demonstrates patient and laboratory personal safety.
- 11.1 Demonstrates correct radiation protection via proper use
of shielding, film badges, distance, lead aprons, thyroid shields
and lead glasses as indicated by supervisory observation.
- 12. Provides essential coronary anatomic information by optimal
angiographic data collection.
- 12.1 Demonstrates knowledge of the coronary anatomy, including
the coronary arteries, main branches, and anomalies as observed by
supervisor.
- 13. Performs accurate documentation of events during cardiac
catheterization necessary to meet medical legal standards and to
assure quality, protecting the patient, physician and staff.
- 13.1 Writes legibly when making entries in the medical records
and includes signature and professional status as indicated by
random review of medical records.
- 14. Demonstrates fundamental knowledge of interventional
cardiac catheterization procedures.
- 14.1 Accurately describes the various interventional strategies
performed in the catheterization lab, including simple and complex
angioplasty as observed by supervisor.
- 15. Maintains educational guidelines based on department
credentialing matrix and maintains skills and knowledge base to
assure competency.
- 15.1 Maintains educational record along the Credentialing
Matrix guidelines as indicated by random review of record.
- 16. 16. Completes non-therapeutic functions under the direction
of MD, PA, APRN, or RN. Remove medication(s) from the pneumatic
tube system sent from Pharmacy or Hospital Supply to the
unit/patient care area/ procedure room.
- 16.1 16 .1 Immediately deliver the medication(s) from the
pneumatic tube system to the appropriate Registered Nurse,
Physician, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Physician Assistant
or other appropriate licensed practitioner. 16 .2 As directed by a
Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician
Assistant or other appropriate licensed practitioner, remove IV
solutions from the patient care area's clean utility room and
immediately deliver to the appropriate licensed practitioner. 16.3
As directed by a Registered Nurse, Physician, Nurse Practitioner,
Physician Assistant or other appropriate licensed practitioner,
stock IV solutions in the patient care area's clean utility room.
16 .4Qualifications
EDUCATION
Spec. Procedure Tech. BCLS required.
EXPERIENCE
1-3 years experience
PHYSICAL DEMAND
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly
required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with
hands and arms; and talk or hear. They are also required to stand
and walk. They must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision,
peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
They are occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes
or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is
usually moderate. Incumbents as well as external and internal
applicants who become disabled must be able to perform the
essential job functions with or without the assistance of
