$50,000-$63,500Position Summary:
Under the supervision of the Community School Director, the College and Career Access Coordinator is responsible for providing advocacy and mentorship to a caseload of high school students, ensuring they graduate with a strong post-secondary plan and are prepared for college and career success. The role emphasizes early college and career exploration, recruits mentors, organizes community service opportunities, plans monthly outings, and creates and delivers a life skills curriculum to prepare students for life after high school.
Essential Duties:


  • Understand and promote the organization's Mission, Vision, and Core Values to ensure alignment with organizational policies and procedures
  • Create college and career exploration experiences for lower grade levels (9th and 10th) and provide coaching and support for upper-grade levels (11th and 12th)
  • Provide intensive one-on-one college and career counseling to a caseload of students, ensuring they understand all college options (CUNY, SUNY, HBCU, and private schools), complete applications, submit financial aid, explore career paths, participate in out-of-school enrichment programs, and enroll in college or secure a career opportunity
  • Track academic progress and credit completion for your caseload; connect students to tutoring as needed.
  • Collect and organize student documents and maintain student files
  • Meet with parents and caregivers to facilitate individual and group college/career workshops; collaborate with Fannie Lou Parent Coordinators to co-lead school-wide workshops and events
  • Provide summer advisement for students transitioning out of high school
  • Serve as an advisor to student clubs as needed
  • Conduct student workshops on college access, success, and career readiness
  • Partner with Assistant Principals and Student Organizations to support and participate in student-led school-wide events.
  • Conduct training and information sessions for CBO and school staff on college and career topics
  • Enter and maintain student data to monitor progress toward their goals
  • Use data to implement programs and strategies for post-high school success
  • Plan, organize, and chaperone field trips and group retreats
  • Attend Children's Aid's Fannie Lou Hamer team meetings, workshops, trainings, and events as requested
  • Perform other tasks as assigned

    Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's Degree with 2-3 years of experience working with young people in a community-based organization and/or school setting
    • Experience counseling students on College and Career Access and Success curriculum

      Key Competencies:

      • Knowledge of post-secondary options for high school graduates, including SUNYs, CUNYs, private universities, HBCUs, vocational schools, work readiness programs, and career opportunities/pathways
      • Strong advocacy and mentoring skills; ability to engage a broad and diverse group of people as needed.
      • Excellent speaking and facilitation skills.
      • Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to establish harmonious relationships with team members
      • Strong writing, research, and computer skills
      • Quick learner, self-motivated, and able to work both independently and in a team
      • Proven track record of applying the Positive Youth Development framework and using data to inform and improve
